Schools reap benefits on assets management with RFID "Administration time/ manpower spent on overall inventory control is sharply reduced by about 20%" - School Adminstrator NSLI Lui Kwok Pat Fong College is a co-educational secondary school with 1,100 students and 100 staff. Valuable equipment such as notebook compters and laboratory equipment are in high demands and constantly moving around different locations within school. Using paper-based records for inventory control was proving ineffective; hence the school invited Schmidt & Co., (Hong Kong) Ltd. to provide a more efficient and accurate way to manage its assets. Objective Develop a user-focused solution to improve efficiency of assets tracking and inventory managment for school The Solution Schmidt developed a simple and  flexible RFID Asset Tracking System that utilized EPC Gen2 passive tags for the assets, two UHF RFID handheld readers and a mobile tracking software. Outcome The school administrator reported a sharp decline of 20% in the amount of administration time and manpower spent on overall inventory control. The RFID system consolidates information that was previously held on loss sheets of paper into one computer database so teachers and support staff are able to and the right tool whenever it is needed. The school also reports that assets are now fully utilized and more likely to be regularly maintained.
